Description
Laureate Remote Displays or Serial Input Meters accept RS232, RS485, Modbus RS485 or USB data from computers, programmable controllers, Laureate instruments, or other devices with a serial data output. They can also provide relay closures and an analog output based on the received serial data. They blend in with 1/8 DIN Laureate digital panel meters, counters and timers to provide a numeric display from -999,999 to +999,999. Use with Laureate Instruments. All Laureate meters, counters and timers allow the display of the sending unit to be duplicated by a Laureate remote display. The simultaneous display of multiple parameters using multiple remote displays is possible if the sending unit is a Laureate counter equipped with an FR (frequency) or VF (voltage-to-frequency) signal conditioner board. While the sending counter can only display one selected parameter at a time (such as rate for channel A), up to four parameters can be transmitted in the serial data (such as rate A, rate B, ratio A/B and peak). A remote display can be set up to display any of the transmitted items. For example, a Laureate Batch Controller can show the current batch total, while remote displays show rate, peak rate, and either grand total or number of batches. An indicator light shows which item has been chosen for display. A serial communications board is required. Choices are RS232 with an RJ11 connector, RS485 with dual RJ11 connectors for daisy chaining, Modbus RS485 with dual RJ45 connectors for daisy chaining, USB, and USB for connection to a PC plus an RJ11 connector to an RS485 network. Three serial protocols are user-selectable for all serial interface boards: Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, and Laurel ASCII. The Modbus protocol allows devices by different manufacturers to share the same data line, but the Laurel protocol is simpler and is recommended when all devices on the line are Laureates. Isolated Analog Output Option. A Laureate remote display can be equipped with an optional 16-bit isolated analog output board with a 4-20 mA, 0-20 mA, 0-10 V or -10 to +10V output to serve as a low-cost and highly accurate digital-to-analog converter or transmitter. Alarm & Setpoint Control Options. A Laureate remote display can be equipped with an optional relay output board with 2 or 4 relays to provide remote alarm or setpoint control capability. These can be 8A contact relays or opto-isolated AC/DC solid state relays. The relays can respond to the transmitted values or to any of 8 serially transmitted control characters. The control characters can be generated by a Laureate meter, counter or timer, thereby assuring that the local and remote alarm points are identical. |

The display of a Laureate counter can be augmented by up to three slave displays to show up to four parameters simultaneously: Items #1, #2, #3 and peak rate (if rate was one of the selected items). All four parameters can also be displayed at a remote location. |
